What is thrombocytopenia? Lack of consensus and important results of the first survey on chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia

Gevorg Tamamyan, editor-in-chief of OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn about what is thrombocytopenia and the results of the first survey on the chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia:

“Thrombocytopenia is one of the most common complications of cancer chemotherapy and has been known for many decades, but up to now there is no consensus for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia!

Moreover, among different specialists there is a lack of consensus also in defining what is thrombocytopenia and what is the threshold of the platelets, below which we would consider as thrombocytopenia! Here is our small study, which clearly shows these disparities.

Larger multi-institutional studies are need and planned!”

He was selected for the ASCO Leadership Development Program and currently is a member of the ASCO International Committee.

He is a recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, among them the ASCO IDEA and LIFe Awards, 40 under 40 in Cancer Award, he was recognized as a Young Leader of the International Agency uiccfor Cancer Research (IARC) and Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
