I couldn’t be prouder of my daughter, Reilly Flora, as she takes her first steps towards her dream of becoming a physician. Week one of medical school is already in the books, and witnessing her white coat ceremony yesterday was incredibly moving. Seeing nearly 200 students, including Reilly, take their oath and commit their lives to serving others was an awesome reminder what a privilege it is to practice Medicine.
To all of you feeling overwhelmed or burned out—let’s remember our 22 year-old selves and the eagerness we had to help others. As William Osler said, ‘The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.’ This is 100 percent true.
