“Born in August 2021 with a large mass on his left leg, Leo was diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma less than a month later. Treatment started right away. Two months of chemotherapy administered through a port-a-cath had little impact on his tumor. Fortunately, genetic testing allowed his medical team to figure out the exact makeup of his tumor. Leo qualified for a chemotherapy treatment that targets his tumor directly and doesn’t affect any of his other cells, allowing him to keep his hair.

Leo’s port was removed in December 2021. He started a chemo pill the following month which is crushed and put in his formula. His parents were told that it would be a slow progression, but the chemo would break apart his tumor with the goal of having it surgically removed.

Normally this chemotherapy is used for children with brain tumors, and Leo is among the first to try it as a treatment for his type of sarcoma. Fortunately, the treatment seems to be working. His tumor has decreased significantly over the last few years.
