Shikha Jain: Women in Medicine continue to be untitled and “voluntold”

“New Study Highlights Women’s Impact in Medicine Recent research in the Annals of Internal Medicine reveals that patients treated by female doctors have lower mortality and readmission rates than those treated by male doctors, such data is recognized.

It’s disheartening that these findings aren’t already central to healthcare discussions. Studies consistently show that female physicians achieve better patient outcomes, yet the need for a more inclusive healthcare environment remains.

The Women in Medicine nonprofit and annual WIM Summit are at the forefront of change, advocating for retention and empowerment of Women In Medicine. These initiatives not only support women in medicine but equip them with the skills to excel and lead.

Despite all the data, Women In Medicine continue to be untitled, harassed, overlooked for leadership, underfunded, underpaid, and ‘voluntold’ to do work that is uncompensated and unappreciated, but necessary for healthcare systems to thrive.”
