Amy Moore: Taking steps for cancer risk reduction

Amy Moore, VP of Global Engagement and Patient Partnerships at LUNGevity Foundation, shared a post by Together 4 Cancer, on X/Twitter:

Taking steps for cancer risk reduction and getting all screenings for which we are eligible can help us lower our risks and detect cancer in its earliest and most treatable form.”

Quoting Together 4 Cancer’s post:

“Do you know that ~42.0% of all cancer cases are attributable to risk factors you have control over? Cut cancer risks with these key changes: 1. Tobacco smoking: Leading cause of lung cancer (>75% cases) and associated with at least 12 other cancer types (oral, throat, larynx, stomach…).
2. Excess body weight: Obesity contributes to 7.8% of cancer cases, with increased risks of colorectal, breast, kidney, and more cancers.
3. Alcohol intake: Linked to mouth, liver, and colorectal cancer risks.
4. Physical inactivity: Associated with higher chances of colon, breast, and endometrial cancer.
5. Poor diet: Diets low in fruits/veggies, high in red meats elevate colorectal cancer risk.

Take charge of your health and lower your risk of cancer through lifestyle modifications. There is evidence that the rates of colorectal cancer are increasing in the younger population – 4 of the 5 risk factors listed above impact this risk.
You can’t eliminate risk – but you can surely control what and when you can. What are you waiting for?”
