”With someone diagnosed with cancer in NSW every 10 minutes, a coordinated and collaborative approach to cancer control is needed. There are over 80 partners working together – driven by 3 principles ; collaboration, patient-centeredness and equity in the NSW Cancer Plan 2022-2027. We are please to share a snapshot of achievements made thus far.”

”The NSW cancer system has been working together to address the goals of the NSW Cancer Plan.

We’ve just published the NSW Cancer Plan Implementation Plan 2022–2023 Progress Snapshot. It highlights the collective activity undertaken across NSW to support people impacted by cancer and address the NSW Cancer Plan’s four priorities.

Thanks to collaboration and partnerships across government, non-government and community, we have made some great progress. This new report is filled with impactful data, real perspectives and stories of success.

Our work in cancer control is continuing at full speed with the NSW Cancer Plan Implementation Plan 2024-2025. It focuses on emerging trends and opportunities such as vaping prevention and cessation, improving how we report on variations in clinical care, geriatric oncology information, the National Lung Cancer Screening Program and more.

Tracey O’Brien is the NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, Australia. Before her current role, Tracey was Director of the Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children’s Hospital, and Director of the Transplant & Cellular Therapy Program.

Tracey has held numerous high-profile national and international leadership positions, including Advisory Chair, Cancer Australia; V/Chair (Africa, Asia and Australasia) International Centre for Bone Marrow Transplant Research and V/President of the Australian and New Zealand Children’s Oncology Group. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Tracey was profiled in 2023 as one of the world’s foremost women in paediatric cancer by the International Society of Paediatric Oncology.

In 2019 Tracey was named in the Australian Financial Review’s prestigious Top 10 Women of Influence, winning the Innovation category. In addition to her medical expertise, Tracey has a Master of Law (Health) and executive MBA and serves as a conjoint Professor in Clinical Medicine (UNSW) and Honorary Professor in Science and Engineering (Macquarie University). Dr. O’Brien remains committed to mentoring the next generation of clinician leaders and maintains an active clinical practice in cancer survivorship at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
