Monday night, friends, family and colleagues of the late Dr. William Blackstock came together to elevate his legacy and passion for health equity.

Blackstock was a long-time and beloved leader of the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center. He died last year after a battle with cancer, the disease he spent his career battling.

He was the chair of radiation oncology, pivotal in progressing clinical trials, training researchers and much more, but one of the causes he was most devoted to was advancing cancer care equity.

Dr. Blackstock played many important roles across the national cancer community at the NCI, in many key societies, and across the field of radiation oncology.

‘Dr. Blackstock really embodied the mission of Atrium Health, dedicating his life’s work to improve health, elevate hope, and advance healing for all,’ says Ruben Mesa, President of Atrium Health Levine Cancer, and Executive Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

‘This inaugural symposium is really about making sure we honor his legacy by continuing to do the work he started when it comes to health equity.’
