David Fajgenbaum: Crazy things can happen when you have great people supporting you along the way!
David Fajgenbaum, an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, posted on X/Twitter:
“I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since this picture was taken at Global Rare Disease Day at the National Institutes of Health. I had been out of the hospital for about a month taking Sirolimus, the drug that’s saving my life. Raj was taking 6-months off of med school to help grow Castleman Disease Collaborative Network along with my best friend Grant Mitchell.
Fast-forward 10 years, Castleman Disease Collaborative Network has connected over 800 physicians and researchers in 65 countries. We’ve analyzed over 1000 patient samples in over 40 active or completed studies, which has in turn led to over 30 peer-reviewed publications. Grant and I teamed up to co-found Every Cure a non-profit dedicated to unlocking the full potential of existing drugs. If you would have told me 10 years ago I’d be alive and well, leading these two organizations I would have said you were crazy. But crazy things can happen when you have great people supporting you along the way!”
