“Grateful to my friend US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy for this morning delivering the 10th Annual Subhash Jain Lecture at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
The lecture honors my father’s role in founding Sloan-Kettering’s pain service and was funded by his trainees, grateful patients, family, and friends.
Vivek was interviewed in a fireside chat with Neal Rakesh. Vivek and Neal covered a number of important topics including:
-the connection between loneliness and the subjective experience of pain
-the profound sense of loneliness for cancer patients
-the connection between social media and loneliness
-the role of service as an addressing loneliness
Vivek’s perspectives are laid out in detail in his book “Together.” I’m also honored that he shared some of the work we have done to address loneliness at SCAN and CareMore Health.”
