William Floyd High School Unites in Honor of Rayna’s Fight Against Cancer – St. Baldrick’s Foundation

“Cara is a long-time volunteer who lost a loved one to pediatric cancer. When she was hired as William Floyd High School’s Career and Technical Education Barbering Instructor in 2021, she decided to host an event there and make March St. Baldrick’s month.
As Cara started planning for this year’s annual event, she learned that Rayna, the daughter of faculty member Jaimee, has been battling B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma since May 2023. When the principal of William Floyd Elementary School caught wind of this, he, Cara, and the team planned an all-day assembly in honor of Rayna.
Every grade level was involved with St. Baldrick’s themed activities to raise awareness and funds for kids’ cancer research. Rayna was joined by her big sister, Kella, who read the book “They Call Me Brave” to every grade level prior to shaving heads to educate students that hair loss is just a side effect of chemo. By the end of it, Rayna shared that the event was one of the best days of her life!
Cara is happy to report that Rayna is now in remission, but is still undergoing active chemotherapy. It’s not too late to learn more and contribute to the team’s efforts in honor of sweet Rayna.”
