Rana McKay won the 2024 Christopher G. Wood Rising Star Award at IKCS Europe, which took place in Sitges, Spain between April 18th and 20th.

About Rana McKay

Dr. Rana R. McKay, MD, is a specialist in medical oncology, with a focus on treating urogenital cancers like bladder, kidney, prostate, and testicular cancer.

She leads a prostate cancer clinic where she and a team of doctors, including urologists and radiation oncologists, provide advanced care to men with aggressive prostate cancer, whether it’s in the early stages or has spread.

At UC San Diego School of Medicine, she teaches medical students, residents, and fellows. Her research interests involve designing clinical trials to improve outcomes for patients with genitourinary malignancies, by using new biomarkers and therapies.

Dr. McKay is in charge of several early-phase trials for kidney and prostate cancer. She’s dedicated to finding better ways to treat cancer and has published her work in respected medical journals like Nature, Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and Cancer.

Before joining UC San Diego Health, she worked at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center in Boston and taught at Harvard Medical School. She completed her fellowship in oncology/hematology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, and her residency in internal medicine at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL.

Dr. McKay is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
