Some key achievements during an evaluation workshop – City Cancer Challenge

“The city of Kumasi has made remarkable progress in cancer care. Through the C/Can initiative, 446 stakeholders coming from 25 different institutions, including local authorities, healthcare professionals, academia, and civil society, have collaborated to generate health system improvements on a regional and national scale.
Here are some key achievements that were shared during an evaluation workshop this week
– Childhood cancer timely referrals for suspected cases surged from 1% to 25%
– Contextualised guidelines for breast and cervical cancer management to improve the quality of care, which have been approved as national guidelines by the Ghanaian Ministry of Health.
– Improved accuracy, quality, and timely diagnostics through upgrading lab equipment, capacity development, information systems, and improvements to upgrade the Nuclear Medicine Unit.
The city is ready to take on more. Care improvements are to be scaled beyond Kumasi, and the country is looking to implement further projects to improve access to and quality of breast cancer management.
