The collaboration that ultimately led to a phase II clinical trial at Massachusetts General Hospital, where Serena found her miracle – St. Baldrick’s Foundation

St. Baldrick’s Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:

David DiCillo (Dave) and Michael Tucker (Mike) are buddies from high school and Dave has been a long-time supporter of Mike and Team Spider Monkey’s quest to help Conquer Kids Cancer. Little did Dave know his support would be helping his own daughter, Serena, who was diagnosed with ALK+ large B cell lymphoma in June 2021.

Through Mike’s connection with St. Baldrick’s, Dave was able to connect with medical specialists and researchers from Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital (Cleveland), Cincinnati Children’s, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston), who collaborated to develop Serena‘s treatment. The collaboration ultimately led to a phase II clinical trial at Massachusetts General Hospital, where Serena found her miracle – she’s been cancer-free since November 2021.

During treatment, Serena kept her hair for as long as possible and didn’t want anyone to shave their head just for her. She’s inspired by her own cancer diagnosis to become a cosmetologist and produce high quality wigs for cancer patients. This year, being a rock star dad, Dave decided to join Team Spider Monkey to give his daughter the honor of shaving his head, while also raising funds for kids’ cancer research.
Research Is Hope and you can give kids like Serena a fighting chance at living a lifetime they deserve.”
