Yes, I was an aerobics instructor in the 80s and 90s.
As a college student at Ottawa University who barely spoke English, the only way I knew to give back to society was to teach dance aerobics to raise money and awareness. I chose the American Cancer Society as the charity.
Decades later in 2023, I attended an Athena Alliance salon with Karen Knudsen MBA PhD, CEO of American Cancer Society, and it prompted me to look for the article that my late father had saved and laminated. My mother kept it well.
We raised a whopping $800 in 1991, held a continuous 75 minutes dancing and aerobics, and it was the news of the town of 10,000 people in Ottawa, KS.
According to the American Cancer Society‘s Cancer Facts and Figures report, nearly 42% of all cancers are preventable.This month, I encourage you to learn more about prevention and screening at cancer.org.
