“We presented our abstract at the prestigious ASCO 2024! Honored to be selected among 7,000 international abstracts.
Abstract title:
**Medical Students’ Views on Oncology Specialty: A Cross-Sectional Study from the UAE**
– The study included participants from 7 different medical schools in the UAE.
– We examined factors influencing interest in oncology and the pursuit of a career in this field.

Significant factors included:
1. Personal or family experience with cancer
2. Pessimistic views about oncology
3. Availability of mentorship, residency, and research opportunities

However, social stigma and societal misconceptions about oncology were not found to impact interest in the specialty.
Based on these findings, one of the major initiatives is the formation of an oncology interest group at UAEU. This group aims to enrich medical students’ experiences in oncology, facilitate connections with mentors, and enhance research opportunities.
