We ran a fully-online 12-week multi-disciplinary rehabilitation programme for people with oesophageal and gastric cancer at St James’s Hospital Dublin Trinity College Dublin. We delivered exercise classes, 1:1 support calls, nutritional advice and education online using Salaso’s digital therapy platform.
Patient feedback from this study was illuminating – both encouraging and constructive. They reported:
-Improved mental & physical health
-Care was personalised and met individual needs
-Peer support and social connections were key benefits of the programme
-A range of experiences with using HR monitors & tablets
While online rehabilitation is not for everyone, for those who have returned to work, or who live far from the hospital, using telehealth enables them to access specialist cancer rehabilitation programmes which would not be possible otherwise.
