By fostering a collaborative working environment, St. Jude accelerates progress in finding cures for children with catastrophic diseases, noting that the most significant breakthroughs often arise from the fusion of diverse perspectives, disciplines, and talents. In that spirit, the St. Jude Research Collaboratives program was created to bring top minds from around the world together to ignite a beacon of innovation.

Last month, the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center hosted the second bi-annual Joint Meeting of the St. Jude Research Collaboratives with twenty-two experts from partnering institutions to address complex fundamental science questions that will impact pediatric disease research. Scientists came together for a two-day event with sessions that included a special symposium showcasing each collaborative’s research, and working sessions that allowed the world’s top-level scientists to come together to discuss paradigm-shifting questions.

‘Innovation is born from interaction and collaboration’ said Charles Roberts, St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center director and Executive Vice President. ‘While it is perhaps unprecedented for one research institution to fund investigators at another, we saw an opportunity to bring together some of the world’s greatest minds, regardless of institution, to address pressing challenges in pediatric catastrophic disease. And the early impact has been impressive.’

There are currently six Research Collaboratives funded by St. Jude with 12 partner institutions: G Protein-Coupled Receptor (GPCR) Collaborative, Biology and Biophysics of RNP Granules, Chromatin Collaborative, Consortium for Sickle Cell Disease, 3D Genomic Architecture of Pediatric Cancer and Implementation Science Collaborative.

As part of the FY22-27 strategic initiative to expand the St. Jude Research Collaboratives program, St. Jude has invested more than $80M in these Research Collaboratives. The institution plans to support additional collaboratives increasing the total investment to $160M by 2027. Learn more about the transformative work done through the program.”
