Neil Nijhawan: Morphine produces better quality pain relief than Codeine

Abhishek Pathak, Professor at Indian Army, shared a post on LinkedIn by Neil Nijhawan, UK-trained Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Burjeel Medical City, adding:

“Morphine is a wonder drug , more so in palliative setting.”

Quoting Neil Nijhawan’s post:

“This is why I don’t use codeine for cancer pain.

We have evidence that Morphine produces better quality pain relief.
In care settings like the UAE where we have access to a variety of strong opioids including morphine, there is very little reason to use codeine.”
