Heidi Floyd: True advocates just want to make sure that our new ‘members’ know they aren’t alone

Heidi Floyd, Director (Volunteer Position) at  shared on LinkedIn:

“A young woman, with young children, diagnosed with late-stage cancer.

As Catherine, Princess of Wales has joined this community, those of us who have faced something similar have watched her story unfold.

Like many with the same diagnosis – albeit with far less public scrutiny – we are watching from the sidelines with a sisterhood of solidarity.

I’ve learned how incredibly rare this group is; true cancer advocates do not care about political leanings, race, gender, age, or tax bracket.

True advocates just want to make sure that our new ‘members’ know they aren’t alone, that we are here to help and can point them in the necessary direction when asked.

According to The National Institutes of Health, there are more than 20 MILLION new cases of cancer diagnosed globally per year: many in countries with inadequate treatment options or social services.

That means opportunities to help, to reach out, to show kindness.

Here’s to those who encourage and uplift during difficult times. Be they royal or common, we all need compassion.”
