SUMMARY:Second Global Oncothon
DESCRIPTION:OncoDaily\, in partnership with the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP)\, is excited to announce the Second Global OncoThon\, a 24-hour virtual event aimed at raising vital funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research. Set to take place on February 15\, 2025\, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Day\, this global telethon will bring together individuals and organizations from around the world to work toward a common goal: ensuring every child has the opportunity for a cancer-free future. \nChildhood cancer remains one of the leading causes of death by disease in children aged 1 to 19. Unfortunately\, there are significantly fewer drugs approved for pediatric cancer compared to over 200 approved for adults. Each year\, nearly half a million children are diagnosed with cancer\, and hundreds of thousands of lives are lost globally. Despite this\, childhood cancer is still classified as a rare disease. The pharmaceutical industry and venture capitalists often show limited interest in supporting initiatives beyond academic research due to the smaller market size of pediatric cancer compared to adult cancers. Without industry leadership\, the approval of new drugs for pediatric cancer becomes nearly impossible. \nThis event will be a day dedicated to connection\, compassion\, and action. It provides an opportunity for everyone to unite and declare that no child should ever have to face cancer alone. The Second Global OncoThon is our moment to inspire change and push for the breakthroughs that every child deserves.

The day is coordinated by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). \nThe Origins of World Cancer Day \n\n\n\n\nWorld Cancer Day was established on 4 February 2000 during the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris. The Paris Charter\, which emerged from this summit\, was designed to promote cancer research\, prevention\, patient services\, and awareness. It also aimed to rally global efforts to make progress in the fight against cancer. As part of the Charter’s initiatives\, World Cancer Day was adopted as a means to unite the global community in addressing the challenges posed by cancer. \n\n\n\n\nWhat do we know about World Cancer Day? \nUICC organizes World Cancer Day campaigns in three-year cycles\, allowing for a deeper exploration of each year’s theme to maximize its impact and drive meaningful change. The new theme for World Cancer Day 2025-2027\, “United by Unique\,” focuses on putting people at the center of cancer care and highlighting their individual stories in the conversation. \nThrough individual\, collective\, and governmental efforts\, World Cancer Day envisions a world where millions of cancer-related deaths are prevented\, and life-saving treatments are accessible to all\, regardless of who they are or where they live. Every year\, numerous activities and events take place across the globe\, bringing communities\, organizations\, and individuals together in various settings—from schools to hospitals\, businesses\, parks\, and places of worship\, both offline and online. These events serve as a powerful reminder that everyone has a part to play in reducing the global burden of cancer.

SUMMARY:AACR Special Conference in Cancer Research: DNA Methylation\, Clonal Hematopoiesis\, and Cancer
DESCRIPTION:AACR Special Conference in Cancer Research: DNA Methylation\, Clonal Hematopoiesis\, and Cancer will be held from February 1-4\, 2025. \nThe upcoming AACR Special Conference\, chaired by Stephen Baylin\, Margaret Goodell\, and Peter Jones will focus on the pivotal role of DNA methylation in human cancer\, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the groundbreaking 1999 AACR Special Conference on “DNA Methylation\, Imprinting\, and the Epigenetics of Cancer.” This conference aims to spotlight recent research advances in the field of DNA methylation\, which has emerged as a central mechanism in cancer biology. It will emphasize the significance of DNA methylation specifically\, rather than covering broader chromatin biology topics like histone modifications. \nThe conference will provide extensive opportunities for presentation\, particularly for highly-rated abstracts\, with podium presentations\, plenary sessions\, and “lightning” talks scheduled before each poster session. Researchers\, clinicians\, and scientists will gather in San Diego for this exciting event\, which promises to offer valuable insights into the molecular underpinnings of cancer and the therapeutic potential of DNA methylation-based approaches. \nAdvance Registration Deadline is December 20th. \n
