As we wrap up this impactful event, the focus shifts to turning ideas into action. Last day’s sessions delved into innovative approaches, tackled key challenges, and shared practical strategies shaping the future of colorectal cancer care. With insights from specialists and leaders in the field, the closing day promises to inspire and empower us to keep pushing boundaries in this vital area.
The first session, “From Theory to Practice: Advances in CRC Treatment in China and the Role of Immunotherapy,” has been moderated by Dr. Maria (Masha) Babak.
Jianmin Xu presented Comprehensive Management of Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases: Integration of Precision and Multidisciplinary Collaboration, highlighting innovative strategies in treatment.
Prof. Xishan Wang delivered an insightful speech on Epidemiology and Screening Strategies for Colorectal Cancer in China, addressing the current status and challenges in the field.
“What are the 5 significant values of CRC screening?”
Prof. Guiying Wang explored colorectal cancer screening and early diagnosis in China, offering valuable insights.
Dr. Jing Jin explored China’s Approach and Practice of Radiotherapy for Rectal Cancer in the Precision Medicine Era during the Global Cancer Movement, showcasing advancements in targeted treatments.
Prof. Guiyu Wang provided an informative interpretation of key points for CACA Guidelines for Colorectal Cancer.
Dr. Yanhong Gu presented From Guidelines to Practice: Advances in Medical Treatment of Colorectal Cancer in China, sharing valuable insights into practical applications of modern treatments.
Kefeng Ding, Chair of the Surgical Committee of CACA, highlighted the progress and current status of the development of the NOSES System for CRC.
Dr. Lilit Harutyunyan shed light on obstacles such as out-of-pocket screening costs and limited interdisciplinary communication, emphasizing the role of international workshops and MDTs in advancing care and raising awareness in Armenia.
The second session on “Improving GI Cancer Outcomes through Multidisciplinary Approaches” was moderated by Armen Avagyan.
Dr. Nadia Jokhadze guided us through the CRC situation in Georgia, unique challenges, opportunities and progress.
Nazik Hammad highlighted the vital role of education, research, and collaboration in strengthening academic systems within LMICs, stressing their importance in the global fight against cancer.
“Sometimes females need permission to attend medical facility. They are also affected by cancer-related stigma.”
Dr. Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed shed light on the unique challenges faced in certain regions, including cancer-related stigma and cultural barriers. The session underscored the importance of global collaboration and shared strategies for overcoming these obstacles.
Dr. Ninad Katdare highlighted the role of surgical oncology in colorectal cancer, focusing on efforts to expand treatment possibilities and improve outcomes.
The third session, “Advancements and Challenges in CRC Treatment and Surgery”, moderated by Dr. Davit Zohrabyan, delved into cutting-edge developments in the field.
Manny Duenas, President of Healthful Stories, joined the Global Cancer Movement to emphasize the importance of patient advocacy and storytelling in challenging the status quo in colorectal cancer.
The Healthful Heroes CRC Voices campaign aimed to amplify 150 diverse stories, reflecting a broad range of experiences with the goal of advancing colorectal cancer treatments and exploring new possibilities.
“I didn’t want to hold my baby. Why get in touch with my daughter, if I’m not gonna raise her? Cancer has affected my motherhood and the way my life would be after I would have a baby.”
Stacy Mauzey’s opened up about her experiences with Stage IIIc rectal cancer, sharing a heartfelt perspective on overcoming challenges.
“Chemotherapy is like purposely choosing to fill your body with toxins. Why not avoid that if we can choose Immunotherapy instead?”
Jessica shared her journey after being diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer.
Toufic Kachaamy explored Endoscopic Oncology and Rectal Cancer Management during the Global Cancer Movement, providing key insights into innovative techniques.
Dr. Avo Artinyan, CEO and Founder of Academic Surgical Associates in Glendale, delivered an insightful speech on Colorectal Cancer Surgery in the Era of Immunotherapy: Advancements and Challenges.
Comprehensive data analysis from Armenia highlighted disparities in colorectal cancer treatment and outcomes.
Dr. Samvel Bardakhchyan presented RWE, showcasing challenges in a developing country, such as significantly lower overall survival rates compared to developed nations, while also noting major advances achieved in the past six years.
“With CRC, you can avoid cancer if you do screening on time.”
Andrew Spiegel, CEO of the Global Colon Cancer Association, emphasized the importance of patient advocacy, early detection, and effective outcomes in CRC care.
“Your zip code shouldn’t determine whether you live or die of Colorectal Cancer.”
Dr. Miriam Mutebi addressed the major challenges of cancer care in Africa, emphasizing the urgent need to close the unacceptable gaps in access and outcomes. Highlighting the work of AORTIC and individual efforts, Dr. Mutebi called for action and unity in addressing these disparities.

Narine Mnatsakanyan shared her heartfelt and brave story of losing her husband to colorectal cancer, yet taking strength and courage to make sure less and less people feel what she felt.

Dr. Bahar Laderian shared valuable insights on managing rare gastrointestinal tumors, including neuroendocrine tumors, and the distinct challenges they pose, bringing the Global Cancer Movement: Challenging the Status Quo event to a close.
