Prostate Cancer Early Detection in the European Union and UK - APCCC

Comprehensive systematic review analyzes 26 existing reviews on Prostate Cancer (PCa) early detection in the EU and UK covering key themes such as invitation, decision-making, screening tests, harms, and benefits.

It highlights that while men over 50 should be invited for screening and population-wide screening is discouraged, shared decision-making (SDM) is inconsistently implemented.

  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA)-based screening can reduce PCa-specific mortality but comes with risks of overdiagnosis and overtreatment.
  • Emerging tools like risk calculators and biomarkers show promise for future screening improvements.

The review underscores both established evidence and areas needing further research to optimize PCa screening strategies.”
